EASY Gingerbread House

Here's an easy version of a gingerbread house that you can follow to make at home, as we were making it for the first time and without many utensils!


120g Butter

150g Brown sugar

1 Egg

4tbp Honey

340g Flour

1tsp Baking powder

1tsp Cinnamon

1tsp Ginger

1/2tsp Nutmeg

1/2tsp Cloves


200g Icing sugar

10g Egg white powder or fresh egg white

2-4tbp Water


On a mixing bowl, add the egg, the sugar, the butter and the honey and mix until everything gets really combined.

Slowly add the flour, baking powder and the spices and finish kneading with your hands if needed.

Let the dough rest in the fridge for at least 30 min, so it is better to roll and cut later on.

Put the dough on a baking paper and roll it out. I would recommend to use two objects of the same size to put on the sides so you roll it perfectly straight.

Cut the desired pieces for your gingerbread house, you're gonna need, 2 pieces for the roof, 2 for the side walls and 2 for the front and back of the house. Just pick the size you want and the form you'd like.

Let rest in the fridge for 30 minutes more (or until the pieces are really firm). And then it is time to bake them at 180ยบ for 8-10min.

You'll know they are ready when the borders start getting toasted. Even though they might be fluffy on the middle, just take them out of the oven and let them rest for a bit.

For the royal icing, whip all the ingredients together and add the water spoon by spoon, if you use too much water it's not gonna thicken as it should, so add it one at a time so you can keep an eye on the consistency.

Mix the icing with each food coloring you'd like to use, and decorate! Use the icing as a glue to stick the walls, when it dries it is gonna be perfectly stick! Enjoy!
