English meat pies inspired by Sweeney Todd, but easier!
The original recipe is with a homemade dough using suet, but as I am making an easier and lazy version we are gonna be using a pre-made shortcrust pastry.
You can also use any kind of meat that you want or like but I recommend using beef and a dark beer.
2 Garlic cloves
150ml Beef broth
150ml Dark beer
1tbp Tomato paste
Salt & Pepper
1 Egg (to brush the pastry)
LET'S GET STARTED:
Start by frying the onion and the garlic and when it gets softer, add the mince meat. When the meat starts changing the color, add the mustard, tomato paste and flour.
When everything is combined, add the broth and the beer, cover with a lid and let it cook for at least 1 hour, or until it gets thicker.
Put some of the shortcrust pastry in the base of your mold and fill them up with the meat. Add more pastry on top to cover the pies and then to bake them, we're gonna put our mold into a tray and add some boiling water so it creates some steam to help the pies bake evenly.
Cover with some beaten egg on top so the pies get golden in the oven.
Bake for 25-30 min at 180º and they are ready, enjoy!
