Monster Ball Soup (Hotel Transylvania)

Halloween Oct 27, 2020
This recipe is from Hotel Transylvania 2, Dracula gives it to Mavis when she is lying pregnant in bed.

The Monster Ball Soup is actually inspired in a jewish soup called Matzo Ball Soup. This original soup is made out of Matzo Meal, which is similar to crackers made with water and flour. This crackers get blended to make the balls and you can buy them prepared on the store.

As I was not able to find Matzo Meal Mix in the supermarkets I decided to use bread crumbs instead, and they turned out delicious so I want to share my method with you.

There's another ingredient that can vary between recipes because everyone uses their own version. You can either use Soda, Water or Broth to get some flavour into the balls. I used Soda because that gives some extra fluffiness to it and makes them softer, but you can use any of this other options.

INGREDIENTS: (2 Servings)

For the Matzo Balls

4 Eggs

2tbp Oil

3/4 cups Bread Crumbs

1/4 cup of Soda

Salt and Pepper

Spices of Choice (garlic, dill, parsley)

For the soup

500ml Broth

200ml Water

1 Carrot

Parsley

Boiled egg and olives (for the eyes)

LET'S GET STARTED:

Put the eggs on a mixing bowl and mix them with a fork. Add the oil and the soda and mix again. Add the bread crumbs and spices of choice.

Let the balls rest for 20 minutes and meanwhile put the broth and the water in a pot with some salt and bring it to boil.

Add the carrot finely chopped and the parsley so it starts getting cooked and prepare the balls (put a drop of oil in your hands so the dough doesn't stick).

Cook them in the broth for 20 minutes and then remove them so you can cut those spooky faces on them! Cut them with a knife and add some egg and olives on the eyes and they are ready to be served with some broth, enjoy!
