Orange Chocolate Mousse (Vegan, Dairy and Gluten Free)

Feeling like having a Vegan Treat? This mousse texture is gonna get to you!

Have you heard of Aquafaba? Well, it is an egg substitute for this kind of sweet vegan recipes, you can whip it and get a proper mousse texture!

When making mousses there's a lot of options in terms of ingredients that you can use to either substitute the double cream or the eggs. I can assure you it is way easier than what you might think, in this recipe we are using aquafaba!

Aquafaba is the liquid left from a can of chickpeas, and yes, you can eat that! As chickpeas are not extremely flavourful, the water doesn't have a pronounced flavour either, which make it perfect to use in this recipe.

You can also substitute double cream by using plant based creams, as on my recipe Cookie Dough Banana Mousse. Or you can use tofu to make everything creamier as in my Snickers Chocolate Mousse.

120ml aquafaba (from 1 can of chickpeas)

30ml orange juice

30ml plant based cream (I use oat)

100g dark chocolate

2 oranges as cups

First of all, empty the oranges saving at least 30ml of the juice.

In a bowl, add the orange juice and the oat cream, pop in the microwave for 1 minute maximum. Add this mix to the dark chocolate to get it melted and mix until it does. It is important to just keep mixing, believe me, it will get melted in less than 3 minutes.

In a mixing bowl, add the aquafaba (water of the chickpeas), and start whipping it. Don't worry about the time, it can't get over done, so just keep mixing until it gets the mousse texture and it is no longer liquid at all.

Slowly add the chocolate at room temperature, we do not want to mix it in hot, and fold it in with a spatula, so the whipped aquafaba doesn't get liquid again.

Fill the orange cups with the chocolate mixture and put in the fridge for 2 to 4 hours, the longer the better. Decorate with some chocolate sprinkles on top.
