Shepherd's Pie (Dairy Free)

Easy traditional english recipe but made my way!  (Dairy Free)

I made this recipe and at the time I was making some christmasy braised cabbage on the side so you can also check that recipe out!


400g Mince beef (although it is traditionally made with lamb)

1 Grated Onion

2 Grated Carrots

2 Garlic Cloves

Celery (at choice)

Tomato puree

Red Wine

1tsp soya sauce

1tsp ketchup

Spices: Thyme, Rosemary, Salt and Pepper

200ml Beef Stock

4-6 Big potatoes

1 Egg Yolk

2 tbp Soya Butter

Soya butter (if needed)

Let's get started:

First of all we're gonna cook the meat, so we can get rid of any extra fat that it may have and we don't want in our final result.

Once the meat has browned, we're gonna add the onion and stir in for 2-3 minutes and then we can add the rest of the veggies, the carrot, garlic and celery and we're gonna let it cook until it gets softer, about 10 min.

Add the tomato puree, soya sauce and ketchup (and Worcestershire sauce if you want too), stir in with the meat and then add a little bit of red wine and let the alcohol evaporate.

In go the spices, thyme and rosemary, and the beef stock. Let it cook until it gets thicker (more like a paste), and it is gonna be ready.

Meanwhile, boil the potatoes and mash them, add salt, pepper, the egg yolk and the butter. If it is too dry, add some unsweetened plant based milk.

On an oven container, add the meat on the bottom and the mashed potatoes on top and bring it to the oven to grate it for about 5-10 minutes at 220º. And it is ready to enjoy!
